The Guardian writes: "UK can reach net zero by 2050, climate report finds"
In summary: The UK can still meet its legally binding target of net-zero emissions by 2050, according to the Climate Change Committee’s 2025 progress report to parliament. The advisers say current carbon budgets are “achievable” provided ministers press ahead with stronger policies, notably reforming energy taxes so electricity is cheaper than gas and accelerating the shift to electric heating and transport. Recent moves such as lifting the ban on onshore wind and expanding offshore wind, alongside rising uptake of heat pumps and electric vehicles, have narrowed the policy gap. Tree-planting rates have also hit their highest level since the 1990s, though they remain below what is required. The CCC warns that delaying tough decisions on energy pricing and investment could still derail progress, even as political attacks on the net-zero goal intensify.
