ESG Today writes: "BBVA Sustainable Finance Activity Surges by 48%".
In summary: Spanish bank BBVA achieved a record quarter in Q2 2025, channeling over €30 billion into environmental and social projects. For the first half of the year, its sustainable finance volume reached €63 billion—a 48% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Earlier in the year, the bank raised its medium-term ambition, setting a new goal to channel €700 billion in sustainable finance between 2025 and 2029—more than double its previous target of €300 billion for 2018–2025, which it achieved ahead of schedule by the end of 2024.
Of the €63 billion mobilized in the first half of 2025, about 76% supported climate change and natural capital projects, spanning areas such as water, agriculture, and the circular economy. The remaining 24% was allocated to social initiatives, including health and education infrastructure, support for entrepreneurs, and advancing financial inclusion. This surge highlights BBVA’s growing role in global sustainable finance.
